Funeral Planning Guide

Compare carefully before committing.

Funeral costs can vary significantly depending on location, burial or cremation, venue, transport, coffin/casket, notices, flowers, catering and other choices.

We intentionally do not publish a single “average funeral price” as if it applies everywhere. Prices change and packages vary. Ask providers for a current, itemised written quote.
Before you agree

Questions to ask every funeral home.

  • What is the total estimated price?
  • Which services are included?
  • Which fees are third-party costs?
  • Are there weekend or after-hours charges?
  • What happens if plans change?
  • Can we supply our own flowers or printing?
  • Is viewing included?
  • What are transport / transfer charges?
  • Are cemetery or crematorium fees separate?
  • What payment timing is required?
Reduce avoidable costs

Small choices can make a large difference.

Get multiple quotes

Where circumstances allow, compare at least two or three itemised quotes rather than comparing package names alone.

Ask about simpler options

Direct cremation, simple coffins/caskets, family-provided flowers and community venues may reduce costs depending on your wishes.

Separate needs from extras

Decide what is essential for your family, culture and faith before adding optional products and services.
