Simple answers to difficult questions.
Start here if you are unsure how Shine Down works, how funeral costs are structured or how to prepare your family.
How do I ask Shine Down for funeral support?
Use the Get Help page and send a family support request. At launch, Shine Down provides information, coordination and referrals. Any direct financial-assistance program will be announced only after the relevant governance arrangements are in place.
Who can use Shine Down Foundation?
The launch platform is designed for families and communities across Australia. Some educational and memorial resources may also be useful to people elsewhere.
Does Shine Down pay for funerals?
Not automatically. The launch site does not promise grants or payments. We are developing a transparent framework for future assistance. In the meantime, we can help families understand options, organise support and find local services.
How much does a funeral cost?
There is no single price that applies to every family. Costs vary with location, burial or cremation, transfer, coffin/casket, venue, cemetery or crematorium fees, notices, flowers, catering and other choices. Ask for itemised written quotes.
How can I find lower-cost funeral services?
Use our Find Services page to search providers near your suburb or postcode. Compare multiple itemised quotes and ask about simpler service options rather than comparing advertised package names only.
Does Shine Down recommend a particular funeral home?
We do not currently endorse providers solely on price or ranking. Our directory is designed to help families discover options and ask better questions. Families should verify current fees and suitability directly.
What is funeral insurance?
Funeral insurance is generally a policy designed to provide a benefit that can help meet funeral-related costs. Policies differ, so premiums, waiting periods, exclusions and total long-term cost should be considered.
What is the difference between life insurance and funeral insurance?
Life insurance is generally designed for broader financial protection, while funeral insurance is typically focused on a smaller funeral-related benefit. Read our Learning Centre comparison and seek licensed advice if needed.
Why does Shine Down talk about ambulance membership?
Unexpected ambulance costs can add pressure during emergencies. Arrangements differ by state, territory and private cover, so families should check their current position with official ambulance services and insurers.
How do I create a memorial?
Open Create a Memorial, submit the life story and family contact information, and send any photo by email. Shine Down reviews the material with the family before publication.
Can Shine Down create funeral programs or PowerPoint slides?
Yes. Families can request help with order-of-service programs, memorial handouts, prayer cards, photo slideshows and PowerPoint presentations.
Can I request prayer support?
Yes. Prayer and spiritual support are optional. Use the Prayer Support page and tell us whether you prefer private prayer, contact from a volunteer or help connecting with a faith community.
How can I volunteer?
Use the Volunteer page. We welcome expressions of interest in practical support, community coordination, design, translation, outreach and appropriately qualified professional support.
How can funeral homes or churches partner with Shine Down?
Contact us through the Contact page. We are building a directory and partnership network around transparency, dignity and practical community support.
Is Shine Down an insurance or financial adviser?
No. Shine Down provides general educational information and does not sell insurance or provide personalised financial advice.
